In short: to apply for a Japan visa from Cyprus, you first need to contact the embassy by email and only then follow the next appointment instructions. If you simply book a slot without prior contact, that appointment may be deleted without further notice.
How the appointment process works
The Embassy of Japan in Cyprus asks applicants to email the consular section in advance. After that, the consular section sends the document list, the procedure, and the appointment link.
Important: an appointment made by an applicant who did not contact the embassy in advance may be deleted without further notice. That is why the process should start with an email to the consular section.
Where to write and when the consular section is open
- Consular section email: cy-ryouji@cy.mofa.go.jp
- Embassy phone: +357 22 394 800
- The consular section accepts applicants on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, except embassy holidays
- Opening hours: 09:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00
- A WebRTC service is also available around the clock, including in Russian and Ukrainian
What to include in your appointment email
To request an appointment, you need to email the consular section with the applicant’s details. The embassy specifically lists which information is required.
- Full name
- Nationality
- Valid Cyprus residence permit or work permit, including the card expiry date
- Purpose of travel
- Planned travel dates
- Planned length of stay in Japan
- Contact phone number
If more than one person is applying, these details must be provided separately for each additional applicant.
Who can apply from Cyprus
Applications through the Embassy of Japan in Cyprus are open to citizens of the Republic of Cyprus and foreign nationals with a valid Cyprus residence permit or work permit.
If you are applying as a family or group
Important: each applicant needs a separate time slot in their own name for submission.
For passport collection by multiple applicants, one time slot for the whole group is enough.
What matters about documents on the day of submission
- All documents must be signed by the applicant in original if the applicant is older than six
- All fields in the application form must be completed, and if an item does not apply to you, write “N/A”
- Each applicant must bring a complete set of documents
- Printing is not available at the embassy
- The passport remains with the consular section during processing
How long the application is processed
The standard processing time for a visa application is five working days from the date the documents are submitted. Depending on the review of the application, it may take longer.
Because appointment availability is limited, the embassy recommends arranging the appointment three months before travel. One more important point: the embassy does not expedite processing for a departure date or a preferred visa issuance date.
How we can help in Cyprus
We arrange Japan visa submission appointments from Cyprus as a done-for-you service. This is a separate national visa, not a Schengen visa.
On our side, we can book the submission appointment, provide a document list, and consult you on the documents.
Details about the service for applicants in Cyprus are on the Visarea Cyprus page.
Short conclusion
For a Japan visa from Cyprus, the main rule is simple: first email the embassy, then book the appointment following the consular section’s instructions. It is better to allow enough time in advance, because slots depend on availability, and standard processing takes five working days after document submission.
