What documents are needed for an Italy visa when applying in Cyprus

To apply for a tourist visa to Italy in Cyprus, you need a valid Cyprus plastic residence permit card. White migration service receipts are not accepted as proof of residence. Check your residence permit validity in advance.

Basic application rules

  • Appointments for a tourist visa application are made through the Prenot@mi portal.
  • All documents must be printed and brought in original form, and where required, also with a copy.
  • Each applicant must appear in person, including minors.
  • The Schengen visa application form must be completed online, printed, and signed. Make sure the barcode is clear and printed well.
  • If the applicant is under 18, the form must be signed by both parents or the legal guardian.

Main document checklist

  • Completed and signed visa application form.
  • Passport or travel document: original and copy; the document must be valid for at least 3 months after returning from the trip and have at least 2 blank pages.
  • Cyprus residence permit: original and copy; it must be valid for at least 3 months after your return. White migration service receipts are not accepted.
  • Two passport-size photos: full face, white background, not older than 6 months.
  • Cover letter with the purpose of the trip, itinerary, and other relevant information.
  • Fully paid round-trip flight tickets. If your route includes several Schengen countries, you need tickets for crossing each border.
  • Proof of accommodation: a fully completed hotel booking or the original invitation letter from the host in Italy.
  • If you are travelling by invitation, attach a copy of the host’s ID card or passport. The owner’s signature must be visible on the copy. If the host is not an EU citizen, their Italian residence permit is also required, and the owner’s signature must be visible on it.
  • Medical insurance issued in Cyprus or in one of the Schengen countries, covering the entire intended stay in the Schengen area.
  • The insurance must cover medical expenses and hospitalisation, emergency repatriation, and repatriation of remains — with at least EUR 30,000 for each category.
  • Personal bank statement for the last 3 months from a bank or branch in Cyprus, showing your name, address, and financial history. The statement must show salary, pension, or other income.

Documents based on your status

If you are employed

  • Recent employer letter with the company registration number, employment start date, position, annual salary, and leave period.
  • Payslips for the last 3 months.

Additional documents for business owners

  • Certificate of registration with commercial document attestation.
  • Business bank statements for the last 3 months.
  • Copies of business tax documents or a paper letter from the accountant not older than 1 month.

If you are a pensioner

  • Copy of the Social Insurance Statement confirming pension payments.

If you are unemployed

  • If the sponsor does not attend in person on the day of submission, the sponsorship letter must be notarised.
  • Sponsor’s documents based on their professional status.
  • Copy of the sponsor’s passport or ID.
  • Birth certificate, marriage certificate, or civil partnership certificate.

If you are a student

  • Original recent letter from your university or college: not older than 1 month, signed, on official letterhead, and addressed to the Embassy of Italy.

If you are applying for a child

  • The minor must also attend the appointment in person.
  • The child’s application form must be signed by both parents or the legal guardian.
  • If one or both parents are not present on the day of submission, a notarised consent certified by a Cyprus notary is required.
  • If the parents live abroad, the consent must be issued at the relevant Italian consulate in their country of residence.
  • Copies of both parents’ passports must be attached.

Certificates and family relationship documents: important details

  • Citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine must provide a birth certificate or a consular declaration showing the full names of both mother and father.
  • If a certificate was issued by a foreign authority outside Cyprus, it must be submitted in original form with an apostille. For countries outside the Apostille Convention, legalisation by the relevant Italian consulate in the country of issue is required.
  • If a certificate is in a third language, a certified translation into English or Italian is required.
  • Certificates issued by a Schengen country are accepted only in multilingual format.
  • Marriage or civil partnership certificates older than 6 months are not accepted.
  • We do not arrange apostilles or translations, but we can advise where and how to do this.

What to check before booking an appointment

  • For Italy, a valid plastic residence permit card is required. A receipt instead of the card is not accepted.
  • You can apply in advance — 5–6 months before your trip.
  • A family slot is available for family applications to Italy.
  • For a family appointment, you need correct family documents and apostilles.
  • A slot cannot be moved to another date and cannot be reassigned to another person.
