To apply for Germany from Cyprus, you need a prior appointment at the German Embassy in Nicosia. Personal visa inquiries are handled by appointment only.

Who applies through Germany

You need to apply at the mission responsible for your place of ordinary residence or permanent residence. For applicants in Cyprus, this means looking at the German mission responsible for Cyprus.

You can apply through the German mission primarily when Germany is the purpose of your trip. Germany also accepts applications for Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and Luxembourg.

Which visa you need

The visa type depends on the purpose of travel and the length of stay. For trips of up to 90 days, applicants usually apply for a Schengen visa; for longer stays, a national visa applies.

How the appointment system works

The appointment for submission is arranged through the official website of the German consulate.

Important: you must have access to the email address used for the booking. That is where notifications are sent, including the message with your appointment date.

All details should be checked in advance when booking. Once the appointment is made, the information cannot be changed.

If there are no available places, the German side recommends checking the appointment system regularly. New slots appear continuously.

If you are applying as a family, check the booking format in advance: for Germany, a separate slot is needed for each applicant, except children under 12. At the appointment, each applicant must be present in person.

When to start looking for a slot

You can submit a Schengen visa application no earlier than six months before the trip and, as a rule, no later than 15 days before departure. The appointment itself can be booked earlier.

Important: in our experience, Germany slots mostly appear once a month and open about two months ahead. If you are planning a trip in December, it is worth starting to look in October.

Can you apply online

For Schengen visas, online submission is not available yet. But the Schengen visa application form can be completed online and brought as a printed copy to the appointment.

You can apply online for visas for work, study, vocational training, and family reunification. But even in these cases, a personal visit is still required for biometrics, payment of the fee, and verification of original documents.

After the application is submitted, a preliminary review is carried out. The applicant is then informed online whether everything has been completed correctly and in full, and after that it is possible to book an appointment at the mission or with the relevant external service provider.

Fees and processing times

The standard fee is 90 euros for a Schengen visa and 75 euros for a national visa. A decision on a correctly submitted Schengen visa application is usually made within up to 15 calendar days.

For long-stay visas, processing can take several months. The timing depends on the purpose of the trip.

What matters for applicants in Cyprus

For Germany from Cyprus, a valid plastic residence permit card is usually required, taking into account the applicable validity requirements. If your Cyprus status is unusual, it is better to clarify this before you start looking for an appointment.
